Does carpet make allergies and indoor air pollution worse?
Properly maintained carpet actually reduces indoor air pollution. Carpet captures dust, dirt and debris, keeping it from re-circulating into the air you breath until it is vacuumed or cleaned. While dust and debris on hard flooring is continually re-circulated into the air that you and your family breath.
I've heard it's best to put off having your carpet cleaned as long as possible, is this true?
No. In fact, many of the major carpet mills today recommend professional cleaning at least once per year. The build-up of soil in your carpet in combination with foot traffic creates abrasion that breaks down your carpet's fibers. The higher the traffic in a given area, the more often the carpet will need cleaning.
How long should we wait to have our carpets cleaned? Imagine, you have a new born baby, a roaming toddler with a sippy cup full of red Kool-aid, or you're an allergy sufferer; perhaps you’re the proud owner of a new puppy or kitten, or maybe you've just given up trying to get your kids to take their shoes off at the door. You can see that each situation is very unique. Each one of you could require a different answer to this question; however, most carpeting manufacturers recommend a professional cleaning every 12 months.
What process do you use to clean carpet?
Dry Master Cleaning & Restoration is experienced in all methods of cleaning. We offer both the hot water extraction (aka steam cleaning) and the non-residue dry foam/encapsulation methods, at the same price. In most cases we recommend the non-residue dry foam method/encapsulation method because it doesn’t soak the carpet or pad with water and it won’t leave any sticky or oily residues behind. So, your carpet dries faster and stays cleaner longer.
How does the non-residue dry foam/encapsulation method clean the carpet?
Just another example of putting our customers first is the introduction of encapsulation cleaning. Encapsulation blends the better of two worlds; chemistry and physics. Encapsulation is a perfect choice for customers that don't want their carpet soaked with chemicals and water, and don't want sticky, dirt attracting residues left in their carpet. The results are nothing short of amazing.
How does encapsulation technology work? First we emulsify all the oil and physical contaminants within your carpeting, surround each molecule with an acrylic-polymer barrier that prevents it from reattaching itself to the fibers while drawing it to the surface using controlled evaporation. This immediately allows the carpet to return to its original orientation so that it looks its best, not just after cleaning, but between cleanings. Approved by all major carpet mills, encapsulation cleaning could be the perfect option for your home's carpet. Give us a call if you would like to learn more and you'll be amazed to find out that you didn't need to settle for the results you've been getting. There are better options.
High Performance Portable Extraction
Going where no truck mount can go. Due to many factors such as security, access or home location, there is no "one size fits all" answer, despite what you may have been sold before. We clean a lot of high rises and commercial facilities where truck mounts just can't go, so High Performance Portable Extraction (HPPE) is another alternative that we offer to keep your home looking its best. Using only the most powerful portable systems available, we can utilize proper chemistry and outperform our competitors "best" every day results. And we do it every day, all day long.
Our customers have asked for, and been given, choices that best serve their individual circumstances. Our promise is that no system we utilize will ever compromise your standards, our results and especially our relationship. Dry Master Cleaning & Restoration constantly educates its people and searches for better ways to meet our customers' goals while providing the best results possible in every situation.

What does the nylon pile lifter do?
Grooming with a nylon pile lifter brings all your carpet fibers back to their full height. This helps the carpet dry faster and gives it a fresher, newer look.
What are those ugly black lines around the baseboards and under doorways?
If you have light colored carpet, you may have experienced these dark lines that appear on the carpet. This soiling is called filtration soiling because it comes from air passing through the carpet as it is attempting to get through the crack between the carpet and the baseboard or under a closed door. As the air passes through the edge of the carpet pile, this microscopic soiling is deposited there (hence the term filtration soiling). This occurs over a significant period of time and is not noticed until a build-up has occurred. See Black Lines Around Baseboards section for more information.
What is the difference in natural and synthetic fabrics? Natural fabrics (cottons, linens, wool, silk, rayon, etc.)
These fabrics must be color locked and cleaned by a trained professional or the colors can bleed, the upholstery can brown or yellow, along with various other problems. That is why natural fibers are more expensive to clean than synthetic.
Synthetic fabrics (nylon, polyester, olefin, acrylic, etc.)
These materials are more durable than natural fibers and can be cleaned with a water base cleaner in most cases.
How long will it take my upholstery to dry?
The normal drying time is anywhere between 30 to 45 minutes. Depending on weather conditions, room temperature, air flow, and overall conditions this time can vary.
How long do we have to wait before we can sit on the furniture again?

Air Duct Cleaning
Are there any health benefits that come from air duct cleaning?
Heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) systems have been shown to act as a collection source for a variety of contaminants that have the potential to affect health, such as mold, fungi, bacteria and very small particles of dust and debris. The removal of such contaminants from the system and home should be considered as one component in an overall plan to improve your home's indoor air quality.
What are sanitizers and why should they be used?
Another valuable service we offer our customers is to disinfect your entire air duct system. The product we use is a hospital-grade, non-allergenic, EPA registered Bacteriastat. Fungistat, Germistat and All-purpose Deodorizer designed specifically for the heating and air conditioning industry.
Our sanitizer will help prevent the re-growth of harmful microorganisms by killing germs, bacteria, and fungus throughout your entire air duct system. It also eliminates the unpleasant odors that are a result of this microbial growth.
How often should air ducts be cleaned?
Frequency of cleaning depends on several factors, not the least of which is the preference of the homeowner. Some things that may lead a homeowner to consider more frequent cleaning include: people with allergies or asthma, pets that shed hair and dander, after home renovations or remodeling, prior to occupancy of a new home, after water contamination or damage, or if there are smokers in the home.
How long does it normally take to clean air ducts?
There are a variety of factors that can affect the time needed to clean residential air ducts, including the type of home and accessibility of the ductwork. A typical three or four bedroom home will require 1 1/2 to 3 hours for cleaning.
Can air duct cleaning reduce our home energy bills? Research by the United States Environmental Protection Agency has demonstrated that HVAC system cleaning may allow systems to run more efficiently by removing debris from sensitive mechanical components. Clean, efficient systems are less likely to break down, have a longer life span and generally operate more effectively than dirty systems. Therefore, we recommend cleaning of your systems air handler at the same time as your vent cleaning. Cleaning the heating and cooling components, such as the fan, squirrel cage, and all accessible air handling components in the furnace, can often improve the efficiency of your air duct system, possibly results in a longer operating life of your system and may even provide energy savings in the future.
Carpet and Upholstery Protection
How do carpet and upholstery protectors work?
When professionally applied, fiber protectors provide an effective protective treatment by surrounding each carpet fiber with an invisible shield. This gives you extra time to clean up spills before they are absorbed into the carpet fiber.
How long will the protection last?
How long protection will last depends primarily on how much use the protected area receives and how well it is cared for. It is recommended that a professional application of fiber protector be applied after each cleaning of all carpet and fabric types, even those with built-in soil and stain protection.
Are your fabric and fiber protectors safe for my children and pets?
All of our fiber protectors are safe for your family and your pets.
Why don’t spills bead up on protected fibers?
Some fibers may not exhibit the beading characteristic typically linked to fiber protection. This can be caused by spaces between loosely woven carpet pile. This does not affect the stain and soil resistance and liquids can be easily blotted up even if it does not\ bead up.

Can you get the pet odor out of my carpet, rugs and upholstery?
Pet odor is a very common problem. At Dry Master Cleaning & Restoration we can help you deal with your pet challenges. From minor problems to major headaches we can help find the solution that works best for you.
The problem with pet odor is that it can be much deeper than it first appears. Pet urine can easily soak through the backing of the carpet into the padding underneath. In more severe cases the urine can penetrate into the sub-floor beneath the padding. This creates a problem that is multi-layered. The urine also provides for the growth of bacteria. This, in turn, contributes to a worsening of the odor problem and can contribute to permanent color loss of the carpet fiber.
To eliminate this problem the urine must be removed or neutralized from each of the layers effected. If the contamination is limited to only the face yarn of the carpet then the cleaning itself may effectively remove the odor. In more severe cases a urine neutralizer may be applied. In the most severe cases, replacement of the carpet padding, treatment of the under-side of the carpet and the sub-floor may be required.
Left untreated over a period of time pet odor can become absorbed into many of the porous materials in your home. Draperies, sheet rock, upholstered furniture, base-boards, even the concrete foundation are just a few of the materials that can absorb these odors.
At Dry Master Cleaning & Restoration we offer a range of solutions to help you with your pet odor problems. In the long run, however, it may be more a matter of proper maintenance instead of total elimination. After all, we love our pets and want to keep them a part of our family. Pet ownership adds to the challenge of maintaining a clean and healthy home. At Dry Master Cleaning & Restoration we can help you meet those challenges.
